Irish Claim 16-6 Victory Over Duke

Notre Dame's dominant performance in the second half secured the win

Top-ranked Notre Dame captured the 2023 NCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championship with an impressive 16-6 victory over the No. 6 Blue Devils on Saturday night in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Irish jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, dominating the second half to secure the title.

Notre Dame's offense was led by Pat Kavanagh, who scored three goals and assisted on another. Seven different Irish players scored goals, including Ryder Garnsey and Nick Minicus, who each had two. Duke's Peter Leonard and Jack Dolan each scored twice, but it wasn't enough to overcome Notre Dame's balanced attack.

Notre Dame's defense was equally impressive, holding Duke to just six goals on 25 shots. Liam Entenmann made eight saves in goal for the Irish, while Duke's Cam Mangel stopped 10 shots. Notre Dame forced 13 turnovers and won the ground ball battle 38-24.

With the win, Notre Dame improves to 16-2 on the season and claims its third NCAA championship in program history. Duke falls to 16-3.
